This commandment is often reduced to a surface-level statement: “do not kill.” But that is not what the text says, and that misunderstanding has weakened the weight of what Yahuah actually established.
Exodus 20:13 — “You shall not murder.”
This is not a general prohibition against all killing. This is a legal, covenantal boundary against unlawful shedding of innocent blood. If you flatten this commandment into “do not kill,” you end up contradicting the rest of Torah, where Yahuah Himself establishes:
capital punishment (Exodus 21:12–17)
just warfare (Deuteronomy 20:1–4)
self-defense principles (Exodus 22:2–3)
So we don’t redefine the commandment—we define it correctly.
This commandment is about murder, not killing.
THE HEBRAIC FOUNDATION — WHAT DOES THE WORD ACTUALLY SAY?
The Hebrew word used here is רָצַח (ratsach)
This word does not mean:
all forms of killing
lawful execution
justified defense
It specifically refers to:
intentional, unlawful killing
premeditated violence
shedding innocent blood outside of covenant justice
Numbers 35:16–21 establishes the difference between:
murder (ratsach)
manslaughter (accidental death)
That distinction matters.
Because if you erase the distinction, you erase justice.
THIS COMMANDMENT PROTECTS THE IMAGE OF ELOHIM
Genesis 1:27 — “So Elohim created man in His own image…”
Genesis 9:6 — “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of Elohim He made man.”
This commandment is not just about behavior—it is about identity.
To murder is not just to end a life—it is to:
attack the image of Elohim
reject His authority over life
take judgment into your own hands unlawfully
Murder is a direct assault on:
creation order
covenant structure
divine authority
LIFE BELONGS TO YAU H AH — NOT MAN
Deuteronomy 32:39 — “I kill and I make alive…”
1 Samuel 2:6 — “Yahuah kills and makes alive…”
Life is not yours to take at will.
This commandment draws a line:
You are not the authority over life—you are accountable to the One who gives it.
WHAT THIS COMMANDMENT DOES NOT MEAN
Let’s remove confusion:
This commandment does not prohibit:
lawful justice (Romans 13:4 — authority bears the sword)
self-defense (Exodus 22:2)
war under Yahuah’s command (Joshua 6; Deuteronomy 20)
Why?
Because those operate under:
covenant authority
judicial structure
delegated judgment
Murder is:
acting outside that structure.
THE HEART ISSUE — WHERE MURDER BEGINS
Most people stop at the physical act.
Yahusha goes deeper.
Matthew 5:21–22
“You have heard… ‘You shall not murder’…
But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without cause shall be in danger of judgment…”
He is not changing the commandment.
He is exposing the root.
Murder begins:
in hatred
in anger
in contempt
in dehumanization
1 John 3:15 — “Whoever hates his brother is a murderer…”
Before blood is shed in the hands, it is formed in the heart.
CAIN — THE FIRST VIOLATION
Genesis 4:8 — Cain kills Abel.
But the murder didn’t start in the field.
It started with:
jealousy (Genesis 4:5)
anger (Genesis 4:6)
refusal to correct (Genesis 4:7)
Yahuah warned him:
“Sin is crouching at the door… but you must rule over it.”
He didn’t.
Murder is not sudden—it is cultivated.
INNOCENT BLOOD CRIES OUT
Genesis 4:10 — “The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me…”
Blood speaks.
Numbers 35:33 —
“Blood defiles the land… and no atonement can be made… except by the blood of him who shed it.”
This commandment is tied to:
land
covenant
judgment
Murder is not just personal—it is territorial defilement.
THE SOCIAL BREAKDOWN WHEN THIS COMMANDMENT IS IGNORED
When this boundary collapses, society follows:
Violence increases (Genesis 6:11 — “the earth was filled with violence”)
Justice becomes corrupted
Life becomes cheap
Power replaces righteousness
This is not theoretical.
This is exactly what happens when:
the fear of Yahuah is removed from the value of life.
THE EXTENDED APPLICATION — WHAT ELSE IS IN THIS COMMANDMENT?
If you think this commandment is only about physically killing someone, you’ve barely touched it.
This commandment also speaks into:
1. Neglect of life
Ezekiel 34:4 — shepherds who do not protect the weak
2. Oppression
Proverbs 6:16–17 — “hands that shed innocent blood”
3. Unjust systems
Isaiah 10:1–2 — unjust laws that destroy lives
4. Abortion and the destruction of the innocent
Psalm 139:13 — “You formed my inward parts…”
5. Hatred and division
Titus 3:3 — living in malice and envy
YAHUSHA — THE RESTORATION OF LIFE
John 10:10 — “I have come that they may have life…”
He does not abolish the commandment.
He restores its fullness.
He confronts:
hatred
hypocrisy
inward corruption
He calls for:
reconciliation (Matthew 5:23–24)
forgiveness
restoration
THIS COMMANDMENT DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY
You cannot claim covenant faithfulness while:
harboring hatred
promoting violence
devaluing life
This commandment exposes:
your view of people
your view of authority
your view of Yahuah
WHAT THIS COMMANDMENT ESTABLISHES
Life is sacred because it bears His image
Justice belongs to Yahuah and His order
Murder is rebellion, not just crime
The heart is the battlefield before the act
Bloodshed brings judgment
FINAL CHARGE
This is not just:
“don’t kill”
This is:
honor life, guard your heart, uphold justice, and submit to the authority of Yahuah over life and death
Because when this commandment is broken:
the image is attacked
the land is defiled
judgment is activated
And when it is upheld:
life is preserved
justice stands
covenant remains intact

Yes, however, I do agree this is a good teaching. However, all thoughts, do they not all begin in the Brain?
