All Scripture quotations are from The Scriptures 2009 (TS-2009) unless otherwise noted.
What Is Blasphemy?
“And he who blasphemes the Name of Yahu’ah shall certainly be put to death. And all the congregation certainly stones him, the stranger as well as the native, when he blasphemes the Name, he is put to death.” (Wayyiqra/Leviticus 24:16)
Blasphemy is not a careless slip of the tongue—it is open defiance and insult directed at Yahu’ah’s set-apart Name. It is to speak evil of Him, to mock, to slander, or to attribute His works to another. It is treating the One who is holy as though He were common or corrupt.
Blasphemy goes further than profaning or taking His Name in vain. While those involve misuse or empty use, blasphemy is active rebellion against His Name, striking at the very honor of the Sovereign of the universe.
The Witness of Torah and Prophets
-
“Because you have said, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have made an agreement. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it does not come to us.’ For we have made falsehood our refuge, and under falsehood we have hidden ourselves.” (Isaiah 28:15)
-
“Your enemies roar in the midst of Your meeting place; they set up their own signs as signs.” (Psalm 74:4)
-
“And they mocked the messengers of Elohim, and despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of Yahu’ah arose against His people, until there was no healing.” (2 Chronicles 36:16)
Blasphemy shows itself in mocking His people, despising His Word, setting up false worship in place of His Name, and aligning with lies against Him.
The Witness of Yahu’sha
Yahu’sha defined the line clearly: “Truly, I say to you, all sin shall be forgiven the sons of men, and whatever blasphemies they blaspheme, but he who blasphemes against the Set-apart Spirit has no forgiveness forever, but is subject to everlasting judgment.” (Mark 3:28–29)
Blasphemy against the Ruach ha’Qodesh is attributing the work of Yahu’ah’s Spirit to demons, as the Pharisees did when they accused Yahu’sha of casting out demons by Beelzebul. This is not ignorance—it is hardened rebellion, a willful rejection of truth, and open slander against His power.
The End-Time Connection
Ḥazon/Revelation declares:
-
“And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against Elohim, to blaspheme His Name, and His Tent, and those dwelling in the heaven.” (Revelation 13:6)
-
“And men blasphemed the Name of Elohim who possesses authority over these plagues. And they did not repent, to give Him esteem.” (Revelation 16:9)
The beast system’s hallmark is blasphemy—mocking His Name, twisting His truth, and cursing Him even under judgment. This reveals the ultimate separation: the remnant sanctifies His Name, while the nations blaspheme it.
Paleo-Hebrew Word Study
Naqab (נָקַב) — “to pierce, designate, curse.”
-
Paleo-Hebrew: 𐤍𐤒𐤁
-
Nun (𐤍) = seed, life, continuation
-
Qoph (𐤒) = horizon, cycle, appointed time
-
Bet (𐤁) = house, family, dwelling
-
Word picture: At the appointed time, the house is pierced or cursed, cutting off life.
-
Insight: To blaspheme is to pierce through the set-apart boundary of Yahu’ah’s Name, cursing what is meant to give life. It is the ultimate rebellion against His dwelling and authority.
