REDEMPTION — WHY SALVATION REQUIRES A KINSMAN-REDEEMER
Redemption is not mercy without cost. It is covenant restoration paid for by another.

Redemption is not an abstract theological idea, nor is it a New Testament invention. Redemption is a Torah-established covenant mechanism. It exists because what was lost cannot be restored without lawful payment.
Torah defines redemption through the go’el, the kinsman-redeemer. A redeemer must meet three non-negotiable requirements:
he must be related,
he must be qualified,
and he must be willing and able to pay the price (Leviticus 25:25–49).
This covenant pattern is clearly illustrated in the book of Ruth. Naomi could not redeem herself. Ruth could not redeem herself. Boaz, as the qualified kinsman, stepped forward, paid what they could not pay, restored the inheritance, and brought them back into covenant standing (Ruth 3–4). Redemption restores what was lost—inheritance, freedom, and identity.
Yahusha fulfills this pattern perfectly. He took on flesh and blood so He could lawfully redeem humanity (Hebrews 2:14–17). He was born of a woman and born under Torah to redeem those under condemnation and restore them into covenant sonship (Galatians 4:4–5). A redeemer must be related—Yahusha became our brother. A redeemer must be qualified—Yahusha lived without sin. A redeemer must pay the ransom—Yahusha gave His life as that price (Mark 10:45; Isaiah 53:5–6).
Redemption is therefore by grace, because the price is paid by the Redeemer, not by the redeemed. But grace does not remove covenant order; it restores it. Redemption transfers ownership. We are no longer our own—we belong to the One who bought us.
This is why redemption cannot be separated from repentance or obedience. You cannot claim to be redeemed while refusing the authority of the One who redeemed you. Redemption restores covenant relationship, rightful ownership, and the path of righteousness.
