Introduction
The tenth letter of the Hebrew Aleph-Bet is Yod. If Tet teaches us about what is hidden within, Yod teaches us how what is within becomes visible.
Yod is the letter of the hand.
The letter of action.
The letter of work.
The letter of accomplishment.
Throughout Scripture, the hand represents power, authority, ability, craftsmanship, provision, judgment, blessing, and obedience. What the heart believes, the hand eventually performs. What the mind conceives, the hand eventually builds.
Yod reminds us that covenant faithfulness is not merely something we believe. It is something we do.
The Letter
Paleo-Hebrew: 𐤉
Modern Hebrew: י
Name: Yod
Sound: Y
Numerical Value: 10
The Ancient Picture
The original Paleo-Hebrew Yod was drawn as a hand.
To the ancient Hebrew, the hand was one of the most important symbols of action and authority.
The hand builds.
The hand plants.
The hand harvests.
The hand protects.
The hand blesses.
The hand works.
Without the hand, intentions remain unrealized.
Without action, plans remain incomplete.
The hand transforms thought into reality.
Definition
Hand.
Work.
Action.
Function
To accomplish.
To create.
To perform.
To act.
Covenant Role
Yod reminds us that covenant requires action.
Faithfulness is demonstrated through obedience.
Love is demonstrated through action.
Trust is demonstrated through obedience.
The covenant is not merely intellectual agreement.
It is a life lived in accordance with the instructions of Yahuah.
Throughout Scripture, the people of Elohim are continually called to act upon what they know.
The Number Ten
Yod carries the numerical value of ten.
Throughout Scripture, ten frequently represents:
Order.
Responsibility.
Completion of a cycle.
Testing.
Government.
Examples include:
The Ten Words (Commandments).
Ten plagues upon Egypt.
Ten virgins.
Ten talents.
Repeatedly, the number ten is associated with responsibility and accountability.
Word-Picture Development
The hand accomplishes what the heart desires.
A skilled craftsman is known by the work of his hands.
A farmer is known by the labor of his hands.
A shepherd is known by the care of his hands.
The ancient Hebrew would immediately understand that the hand represents visible evidence of what exists internally.
The pictograph teaches that covenant faithfulness eventually becomes visible through action.

The very first letter of His Name bears witness to divine action.
The Letter in the Name of Yahusha
Yod is also the first letter in Yahusha’s name.

Covenant Application
Yod challenges us to examine our actions.
What are our hands building?
What are our hands supporting?
What are our hands accomplishing?
Do our actions reflect our beliefs?
Do our works reflect our profession of faith?
The covenant life requires more than knowledge.
It requires obedience.
The hand reveals what the heart truly believes.
Aleph-Bet Moment
A hand can build.
A hand can plant.
A hand can bless.
A hand can serve.
Yod reminds us that covenant faithfulness is demonstrated through action.
The Creator works.
The Messiah worked.
The covenant people are called to work.
Faith becomes visible when the hand obeys what the heart knows.
