Introduction
The fifth letter of the Hebrew Aleph-Bet is Hey. If Aleph teaches authority, Bet teaches the house, Gimel teaches provision, and Dalet teaches access and choice, Hey introduces us to revelation.
Hey is the letter of behold.
It is the letter of seeing.
It is the letter of revelation.
It is the letter of divine disclosure.
Throughout Scripture, Yahuah continually reveals Himself to His people. He reveals His character, His covenant, His instructions, His promises, and His purposes. Without revelation, mankind remains in darkness. Without revelation, covenant cannot be understood.
Hey reminds us that Yahuah is not hidden. He is a Creator who reveals Himself.
The Letter
Paleo-Hebrew: 𐤄
Modern Hebrew: ה
Name: Hey
Sound: H
Numerical Value: 5
The Ancient Picture
The original Paleo-Hebrew Hey is commonly understood as a man with arms raised in astonishment.
The picture communicates:
Behold.
Look.
See.
Observe.
Pay attention.
The ancient Hebrew would immediately recognize this as a response to something being revealed.
The pictograph is not passive.
It is active.
Something has been seen.
Something has been understood.
Something has been revealed.
Definition
Behold.
Reveal.
Observe.
Function
To reveal.
To make known.
To bring understanding.
To draw attention.
Covenant Role
Hey reminds us that covenant depends upon revelation.
Before people can obey, they must know.
Before people can follow, they must understand.
Before people can walk in covenant, Yahuah must first reveal His will.
Throughout Scripture, Yahuah continually reveals Himself to those willing to hear and obey.
The Number Five
Hey carries the numerical value of five.
Throughout Scripture, five is frequently associated with:
Grace.
Favor.
Provision.
Divine enablement.
Responsibility.
While caution should always be exercised with numerical studies, the repeated association of five with divine provision and favor aligns well with the themes of revelation found in Hey.
Word-Picture Development
Imagine a man standing before a breathtaking revelation.
His arms rise.
His eyes widen.
His attention becomes focused.
The ancient Hebrew immediately understood that Hey represented recognition and response.
The pictograph teaches that revelation demands action.
To see truth carries responsibility.
To understand truth requires response.
Key Hebrew Words
Hallel (הלל)
Praise.
To celebrate.
To shine forth.

Hinneh (הנה)

A word frequently used to draw attention to an important revelation.

These words consistently point toward revelation, recognition, and response.
First Appearance Principle
One of the earliest Hey themes appear in Genesis 1 itself.
Again and again Yahuah reveals His power through creation.
The heavens declare.
The earth testifies.
The light shines.
Creation becomes a witness revealing the existence and authority of the Creator.
From the beginning, revelation surrounds mankind.
Letter Throughout Scripture
Hey themes appear throughout the Bible.
Yahuah reveals Himself to Noah.
He reveals Himself to Abraham.
He reveals Himself to Mosheh at the burning bush.
He reveals His Torah at Sinai.
He reveals His warnings through the prophets.
He reveals His promises through covenant.
Again and again Scripture presents a Creator who makes Himself known.
The Letter and Yahusha
The themes of Hey find powerful expression in Yahusha.
He came to reveal the Father.
He revealed the Kingdom.
He revealed the meaning of the Scriptures.
He revealed the heart of covenant obedience.
Those who saw Him witnessed the revelation of the Father’s purpose and plan.
The Letter in the Name of Yahuah
The Hebrew name of Yahuah contains two Heys.
This alone highlights the importance of revelation within His Name.
His Name itself bears witness to the Creator who reveals Himself to His people.
The Letter in the Name of Yahusha
Hey appears within the name Yahusha and contributes to the message of revelation, salvation, and divine purpose reflected throughout His ministry.
Covenant Application
Hey challenges us to examine whether we are truly paying attention to what Yahuah has revealed.
Do we study His Word?
Do we seek understanding?
Do we respond when truth is revealed?
Revelation without obedience accomplishes little.
The purpose of revelation is transformation.
Yahuah reveals so that His people may walk faithfully.
Aleph-Bet Moment
A man stands with raised arms and cries, “Behold!”
Something has been revealed.
Something demands attention.
Something must be understood.
Hey reminds us that Yahuah is not silent.
He reveals Himself through His creation.
He reveals Himself through His Word.
He reveals Himself through His covenant.
The question is not whether He has spoken.
The question is whether we are listening.
