The celebration of First Fruits and the counting of the Omer leading to Shavuot, or the Feast of Weeks, is a significant event in the biblical calendar. This period, spanning seven weeks plus one day (a total of 50 days), is rooted in Yahuah’s unchanging Word and rhythm.
As stated in Exodus 20:9-11, Yahuah, in His fourth commandment, established the pattern of six days of labor followed by the seventh day, the Sabbath, a day of rest. This pattern is deeply ingrained in the biblical teachings and is a cornerstone of the Sabbath observance.
However, the Lunar Sabbath interpretation presents challenges when it comes to determining Yahuah’s First Fruit Days. For instance, the Passover first fruits day does not align with the Lunar Sabbath. Yahuah instructed in Leviticus 23:10-11, “Speak to Israel’s seed and say to them: When you come into the land which I give to you, and reap its harvest, then you shall bring a sheaf of the first fruits of your harvest to the priest. He shall wave the sheaf before Yahuah, to be accepted on your behalf; on the day after the Sabbath the priest shall wave it.”
In Leviticus 23:15-16, Yahuah provides two methods to determine the date of Shavuot, and both must yield the same day. The first method involves counting for yourselves from the day after the Sabbath, from the day that you brought the sheaf of the wave offering: seven Sabbaths shall be completed. The second method instructs to count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath; then you shall offer a new grain offering to Yahuah. Both these ways for determining Shavuot must align and yield the same day.
