The Second Exodus: The Division and Regathering of Israel, the Messianic Kingdom, and the Second Coming of Y’shu’ah

Updated: 6 days ago

The Second Exodus, the division and regathering of Israel, and the Second Coming of Y’shu’ah HaMashiach (Jesus Christ) form a prophetic arc central to Yahuah’s plan for the restoration of His people, both Judah (the Southern Kingdom) and Israel (the Northern Kingdom). Together, these events fulfill Yahuah’s promise to bring Israel back into a united covenant relationship under Y’shu’ah’s Messianic reign. This narrative unfolds through historical and prophetic themes with profound significance for the end times.

1. The Northern and Southern Kingdoms: A Divided Israel

After King Solomon’s reign, the united Kingdom of Israel split into two—Israel (the Northern Kingdom) and Judah (the Southern Kingdom)—setting the stage for judgment, exile, and eventual restoration as prophesied throughout the Scriptures.

a. The Northern Kingdom (Israel/Ephraim)

The Northern Kingdom, composed of ten tribes and often called Ephraim, entered a period of spiritual decline under King Jeroboam, who introduced idolatry by establishing golden calves in Bethel and Dan. This rebellion against Yahuah’s commandments led to judgment and exile.

In 2 Kings 17:22-23, we see the consequence of Israel’s sins:

"For the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they did not depart from them, until Yahuah removed Israel out of His sight, as He had said by all His servants the prophets."

In 722 BCE, the Northern Kingdom was conquered by the Assyrians, and its people were taken into captivity, becoming the "lost ten tribes" of Israel. Scattered among the Gentile nations, they assimilated, fulfilling the prophecy of Israel being “sifted among the nations” (Amos 9:9).

b. The Southern Kingdom (Judah)

The Southern Kingdom of Judah, consisting primarily of the tribes of Judah, Benjamin, and Levi, experienced occasional revival under righteous kings like Hezekiah and Josiah. However, Judah also fell into idolatry and eventually faced judgment and exile.

2 Chronicles 36:15-17 outlines Judah’s downfall:

"And Yahuah God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers... but they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets."

In 586 BCE, Nebuchadnezzar, the Babylonian king, conquered Judah, destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple, and took the people into exile in Babylon. Unlike the Northern Kingdom, Judah returned after 70 years of captivity, rebuilding Jerusalem and the Temple under leaders like Ezra and Nehemiah, as prophesied by Jeremiah.

2. The Scattering and Future Regathering: The Second Exodus

The scattering of Israel and Judah does not end with exile; the Bible foretells a Second Exodus—a prophetic regathering of all Israel (both Ephraim and Judah) into one united kingdom under the Messianic reign of Y’shu’ah HaMashiach. This greater deliverance than the first Exodus is essential to Yahuah’s plan for end-time restoration.

a. The Second Exodus: A Greater Deliverance

The Second Exodus is the prophetic return of Yahuah’s people from the nations. Unlike the Exodus from Egypt, this deliverance encompasses all Israel—both the lost tribes of Ephraim and the returning remnant of Judah.

Jeremiah 16:14-15 prophesies this Second Exodus:

"Therefore behold, the days are coming, says Yahuah, that it shall no more be said, 'Yahuah lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,' but, 'Yahuah lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.'"

This prophecy reveals that Yahuah will regather all Israel from their dispersion. This Second Exodus represents a restoration that prepares Israel for the Messianic Kingdom, where they will be one people under Y’shu’ah.

b. The Role of Ephraim and Judah in Prophecy

Ezekiel 37 provides a vision of two sticks—one for Ephraim (the Northern Kingdom) and one for Judah (the Southern Kingdom). Yahuah instructs the prophet to join the two sticks together, symbolizing the future reunification of Israel under the Davidic King, Y’shu’ah.

Ezekiel 37:19-22 proclaims:

"Surely I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim... and I will join them with the stick of Judah... and they will be one in My hand... And I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all."

This prophecy points to the restoration of Israel and Judah under Y’shu’ah, who will reign over the united Israel in the Messianic Kingdom. The two sticks becoming one foreshadows the healing of division and a renewed covenant with Yahuah.

3. The Second Coming of Y’shu’ah HaMashiach and the Restoration of All Israel

The Second Coming of Y’shu’ah is the culmination of Yahuah’s promises for Israel’s restoration. When Y’shu’ah returns, He will regather His people from the nations, defeat the forces of lawlessness, and establish His eternal Kingdom.

a. The Regathering at Y’shu’ah’s Return

Y’shu’ah’s Second Coming will be marked by the gathering of His elect from the four corners of the earth, fulfilling prophecies of the restoration of Israel and uniting Jew and Gentile believers in the Messianic Kingdom.

Matthew 24:30-31 describes this event:

"Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven... and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds."

This regathering includes natural descendants of Israel (Judah and Ephraim) and Gentile believers grafted into the olive tree of Israel (Romans 11), uniting them as one people under Y’shu’ah.

b. The Defeat of the Lawless One

At His return, Y’shu’ah will defeat the lawless one (the antichrist), who opposes Yahuah’s commandments and represents a spirit of rebellion against divine authority.

2 Thessalonians 2:8 speaks of this victory:

"And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming."

This triumph signals the end of lawlessness and ushers in Y’shu’ah’s righteous reign. The restored Israel will live in obedience to Yahuah’s commandments, observing the Sabbath and His appointed feasts, while the lawless nations face judgment.

c. The Messianic Kingdom: Y’shu’ah’s Reign

In the Messianic Kingdom, Y’shu’ah will reign as King over all the earth, uniting Ephraim and Judah under His rule. This period of peace, justice, and restoration fulfills the prophecies of a reunified Israel under the Messianic King.

Zechariah 14:9 describes this kingdom:

"And Yahuah shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be—'Yahuah is one,' and His name one."

During this time, Israel will dwell in their land, and all nations will come to Jerusalem to worship Yahuah (Isaiah 2:2-4). The Sabbath and Yahuah’s appointed feasts will be observed worldwide, as part of the new order under Y’shu’ah’s righteous governance.

4. Conclusion: The Second Exodus, Israel’s Restoration, and the Second Coming

The Second Exodus, the reunification of Israel, and the Second Coming of Y’shu’ah represent the climax of Yahuah’s plan for the restoration of His people. Both the Northern Kingdom (Ephraim) and the Southern Kingdom (Judah) faced exile due to disobedience, but Yahuah has promised a greater regathering that will bring them back into covenant with Him.

At His Second Coming, Y’shu’ah will gather His people, defeat lawlessness, and establish His eternal Kingdom. In this Kingdom, the Sabbath and Yahuah’s commandments will be honored, and Jew and Gentile believers will live together under the righteous reign of Y’shu’ah HaMashiach. The restoration of Israel is a key sign of the end times, and as we approach this fulfillment, we witness the return to the ways of the early believers, mirroring the Book of Acts.

The Second Exodus and Second Coming reflect Yahuah’s redemptive plan, bringing Heaven’s Kingdom to earth and restoring peace and obedience to His divine order.
