El Elyon and Emmanuel: The Eternal Elohim Who Walked Among Us

Have you ever pondered the profound mystery of Elohim, the Most High (El Elyon), who dwells in eternity, stepping into time to dwell among His creation? The Scriptures reveal Y’shu’ah (Yahshua) as Emmanuel—"God with us"—and the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. How can the eternal, invisible Elohim be present in flesh and blood, walking among humanity while ruling from His throne? Join us as we delve into the preexistence of Y’shu’ah, the intricacies of the incarnation, and the unity of El Elyon, whose throne and mercy seat illustrate the ultimate purpose of redemption and divine fellowship.

El Elyon: The Most High Who Dwells in Eternity and the Preexistence of Y’shu’ah

Elohim, identified as El Elyon ("The Most High"), dwells outside of time and space, transcending creation. He exists in eternity (Isaiah 57:15), sovereign over all that is created. Yet, in His immeasurable love, He chose to insert Himself into creation, manifesting as Emmanuel, "God with us" (Matthew 1:23). To understand this, we must explore the profound truth of Y’shu’ah’s preexistence and His role as the Lamb of Elohim, "slain from the foundation of the world" (Revelation 13:8).

1. El Elyon: Dwelling in Eternity

Isaiah 57:15 declares:

“For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.’”

El Elyon, the transcendent Creator, exists outside the confines of creation. Time, space, and matter do not limit Him, for He spoke them into existence (Genesis 1:1). Yet, He has always desired to dwell with His creation, evidenced by the tabernacle, the temple, and, ultimately, His incarnation.

2. Y’shu’ah’s Preexistence: The Eternal Word

John 1:1-3 provides a foundational truth:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

Y’shu’ah, as the Word (Logos), is co-eternal with the Father. He was not created but has always existed as Elohim. His role in creation underscores His divine authority and unity with El Elyon. This unity is further revealed in:

  • Colossians 1:16-17: "For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible... And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist."

  • John 17:5: "And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was."

Y’shu’ah’s preexistence and shared glory with the Father demonstrate His divine nature.

3. The Lamb of Elohim Before the Foundation of the World

Revelation 13:8 reveals:

"All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."

The plan of redemption was not an afterthought but part of Elohim’s eternal purpose. Y’shu’ah’s identity as the Lamb was established before creation itself, underscoring His preexistence and His central role in salvation history.

  • 1 Peter 1:20: "He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you."

  • Ephesians 1:4: "He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love."

Y’shu’ah’s role as the Lamb demonstrates that Elohim’s intention to dwell with humanity and redeem creation has always been central to His purpose.

4. The Question of the Throne

“Who was in heaven on the throne of God when Y’shu’ah was on earth if Y’shu’ah Himself is God the Father?”

This question arises from misunderstanding the nature of Elohim and the unity within His being. Scripture teaches that Elohim exists as one (Deuteronomy 6:4), yet His oneness encompasses a complexity:

  • John 1:18: "No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him."

    • While Y’shu’ah walked the earth, the Father remained enthroned in heaven. The relationship between the Father and the Son is not one of separation but of distinct roles within the unity of Elohim.

  • John 14:10: "Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me?"

    • Y’shu’ah’s presence on earth did not diminish the Father’s sovereignty in heaven, as they are united in essence and purpose.

5. The Mystery of the Incarnation

Philippians 2:6-8 explains the mystery of the incarnation:

“[Y’shu’ah], being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

Y’shu’ah’s incarnation was an act of humility. He voluntarily set aside His divine privileges to walk among humanity, fulfilling the Father’s will.

  • While Y’shu’ah was on earth, the Father remained in heaven, illustrating the distinct roles within the unity of Elohim. This does not imply division but the operation of Elohim’s redemptive plan.

  • Hebrews 1:3: "Who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person..."

    • Y’shu’ah perfectly reveals the Father, demonstrating His unity with El Elyon.

6. Conclusion: Emmanuel—Elohim Inserted Into Time

The incarnation of Y’shu’ah as Emmanuel reveals the profound truth of Elohim’s desire to dwell with humanity. El Elyon, the Most High who inhabits eternity, entered time and space to redeem His creation. Through Y’shu’ah, the invisible Elohim is made visible, the eternal Word becomes flesh, and the Lamb is slain for the salvation of the world.

Isaiah 9:6-7 proclaims:

"For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given... And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

In Y’shu’ah, the fullness of El Elyon is revealed. As the preexistent Word, the Lamb foreordained, and the One who reigns on the throne, He embodies the eternal purposes of Elohim, uniting heaven and earth in Himself. #ElElyon #Emmanuel #Yahshua #GodWithUs #TabernaclingWithUs #LambOfGod #EternalWord #Preexistence #BiblicalMystery #ScripturalTruths #GodsRedemption #MessianicProphecy #Isaiah714 #John114 #Colossians115 #BiblicalTheology #Ephraimscry #GregWitter
