Are You Following the True Messiah? Walking as He Walked as Lights and Priests to the Nations

The calling to walk as Y’shu’ah walked, keep and guard the covenant, and live under the better covenant established by Him as our eternal High Priest.

Have you ever wondered if the Messiah you’re following aligns with the teachings and life of Y’shu’ah, the true Messiah? The Great Commission in Matthew 28 calls us to make disciples of all nations, but it’s more than sharing a message—it’s a call to walk as He walked. Y’shu’ah fulfilled the covenant with Elohim, lived in obedience, and showed us the path of righteousness. Today, as grafted-in believers, we are invited to be a “light to the nations” and live under the new covenant. Join us in exploring the full Gospel of redemption, salvation, and restoration, embodying the life Y’shu’ah modeled.

The command to make disciples of all nations, found in Matthew 28:19-20, is a profound call for believers to extend Elohim’s plan of redemption, salvation, and restoration beyond Israel to all people. This directive reflects Elohim’s enduring intention that His people serve as a light to the nations, fulfilling Israel’s original mission. Understanding the depth of this calling involves recognizing Israel’s purpose, the grafting in of believers as partakers in the covenant, and the example set by Y’shu’ah HaMashiach (Jesus the Messiah) as our model for covenant faithfulness. We are called not only to share the message but to embody it by walking as Y’shu’ah walked—keeping, guarding, and teaching the covenant as He did.

1. Israel’s Role as a Light and Priest to the Nations

Elohim established Israel as His chosen people to represent His holiness and wisdom to the world. Exodus 19:5-6 describes this purpose: “You shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” As a kingdom of priests, Israel was to serve as an intermediary, representing Elohim to other nations and revealing His ways through obedience to His commandments. Israel’s faithfulness to the covenant was to act as a testimony to the world of Elohim’s character and righteousness, drawing others to Him.

Isaiah 49:6 confirms this calling, stating, “It is too small a thing for You to be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light to the Gentiles, that You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.” Israel’s purpose to be a light ultimately pointed to the Messiah, who would bring Elohim’s salvation to all people. Through Israel’s example and the coming of Y’shu’ah, Elohim’s Kingdom is revealed as one of justice, mercy, and truth.

2. Believers Are Grafted Into Israel’s Covenant Mission

With the arrival of Y’shu’ah, the mission to be a light to the nations was extended to include all who believe in Him, both Jew and Gentile. Paul describes this in Romans 11:17-18, explaining that Gentile believers are “grafted in” to the olive tree of Israel. By being grafted into Israel’s covenant family, believers partake in both the blessings and responsibilities of Elohim’s people, joining the mission to represent Elohim’s character to the world.

1 Peter 2:9 emphasizes this responsibility, stating, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” As those who are grafted in, we inherit Israel’s role as priests and lights to the nations. We are called to be representatives of Elohim’s holiness and compassion, bringing His light to a world in need of truth and hope.

3. Walking as Y’shu’ah Walked: Keeping, Guarding, and Teaching the Covenant

In fulfilling our role as lights to the nations, we are called to walk as Y’shu’ah walked. 1 John 2:6 says, “Whoever claims to live in Him must walk as Y’shu’ah did.” Y’shu’ah perfectly upheld and embodied the covenant, serving as the ultimate example of obedience, holiness, and covenant loyalty. To walk as He walked means to follow His example in every area of life, keeping, guarding, and teaching the covenant faithfully.

Y’shu’ah’s life was marked by obedience to Elohim’s commandments. He declared in Matthew 5:17, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” Y’shu’ah upheld the covenant, demonstrating its true meaning and depth. By keeping and guarding the covenant, He revealed the heart of Elohim’s commandments and their intended purpose of fostering a holy and just community.

We, too, are called to keep and guard this covenant as Y’shu’ah did, living lives that reflect Elohim’s holiness. As disciples, we not only observe His commandments but actively teach and model them, bringing others into a deeper understanding of Elohim’s ways. Matthew 28:20 directs us to teach “all that I have commanded you,” showing that discipleship involves instructing others to walk in the commandments of Elohim and embrace His covenant fully.

4. The Restored Covenant in Y’shu’ah’s Blood and the Role of the Eternal High Priest

The covenant Y’shu’ah invites us into is a restored and renewed covenant, one that He established through His own sacrificial blood. At the Last Supper, Y’shu’ah spoke of this renewed covenant in Luke 22:20, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.” Through His sacrifice, Y’shu’ah not only atoned for sin but reestablished the covenant on a foundation of grace, enabling believers to enter into a restored relationship with Elohim.

Under this renewed covenant, Y’shu’ah serves as our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek, mediating between Elohim and humanity. Hebrews 7:24-25 states, “But because Y’shu’ah lives forever, He has a permanent priesthood. Therefore, He is able to save completely those who come to Elohim through Him, because He always lives to intercede for them.” As the eternal High Priest, Y’shu’ah administers a better covenant, one that fulfills the promises of old, providing us with direct access to Elohim and empowering us to live in alignment with His will.

This better covenant, administered by Y’shu’ah, does not abolish Elohim’s commandments but writes them upon our hearts, as promised in Jeremiah 31:33: “I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their Elohim, and they will be My people.” As participants in this covenant, we are called to live in obedience to His commandments, not out of obligation but as an expression of our love and gratitude for His grace. Y’shu’ah’s role as High Priest assures us that we are continually supported, empowered, and guided in our journey of faith.

5. Preaching the Full Gospel: Kingdom, Redemption, Salvation, and Restoration

Y’shu’ah’s command to make disciples of all nations is a call to proclaim the full Gospel, which is not only about individual salvation but about the Kingdom, redemption, salvation, and restoration of humanity. This Gospel aligns with Israel’s calling to be a light to the nations, revealing Elohim’s plan to restore all things through the Messiah.

  • Kingdom: Y’shu’ah’s message emphasized that the Kingdom of Elohim is at hand (Matthew 4:17). This Kingdom is both a present reality and a future hope, a realm where Elohim’s will is honored and His commandments are upheld. As members of this Kingdom, believers are to live as representatives of Elohim’s justice, mercy, and righteousness, embodying His values and serving as ambassadors of His reign on earth.

  • Redemption: Redemption is the process of being “bought back” from the bondage of sin through Y’shu’ah’s sacrificial death. 1 Peter 1:18-19 teaches, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed... but with the precious blood of Messiah.” Y’shu’ah’s blood serves as the ultimate price, restoring us to a right relationship with Elohim.

  • Salvation: Salvation is Elohim’s deliverance from the curse of sin, offering us eternal life. Romans 6:23 reminds us, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of Elohim is eternal life in Messiah Y’shu’ah.” This salvation is both a rescue from sin’s penalty and an invitation to live righteously as children of Elohim.

  • Restoration: The Gospel message includes the promise of restoration, returning humanity to Elohim’s original purpose. Through Y’shu’ah, we are restored to a covenant relationship with Elohim, empowered to live by His commandments. Jeremiah 31:33 prophesies that Elohim will write His law on our hearts, a promise fulfilled in the New Covenant, enabling us to walk in His ways.

6. The Great Commission: A Call to Walk, Teach, and Live as Priests to the Nations

By commanding His disciples to make disciples of all nations, Y’shu’ah extended Israel’s mission to His followers, calling them to join in the task of bringing the nations into Elohim’s covenant family. The Great Commission emphasizes teaching, repentance, obedience, and transformation—a life that reflects Elohim’s holiness and covenant. Discipleship goes beyond sharing the Gospel; it involves guiding others to live as Y’shu’ah did, in alignment with Elohim’s commandments.

As we embrace this role, we inherit Israel’s calling to be a “kingdom of priests,” teaching and embodying Elohim’s covenant to the world. Matthew 5:16 encourages us to “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” As grafted-in believers, we represent Elohim’s holiness, justice, and compassion, illuminating the path to His Kingdom.

Conclusion: Embracing Our Role and Walking as Y’shu’ah Walked

The Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 is a powerful reminder that the message of salvation, which began with Israel, is now extended to all people. As believers grafted into Israel’s covenant family, we are called to be lights and priests to the nations, sharing the full Gospel of the Kingdom, redemption, salvation, and restoration.

Walking as Y’shu’ah walked means keeping, guarding, and teaching Elohim’s covenant as He did, under the new covenant established by His blood. As our eternal High Priest, Y’shu’ah empowers us to fulfill this calling, inviting us to participate in His Kingdom, where His laws and love reign. Our role as grafted-in believers is to live in alignment with Elohim’s commandments, embodying His holiness, and making His covenant known to all people.

As we teach, disciple, and share the truth, we actively participate in Elohim’s redemptive plan, drawing the nations into a covenant relationship with Him. May we embrace this calling with humility and dedication, walking as Y’shu’ah walked, fulfilling the role of priesthood, and spreading the light of Elohim’s love to a world that deeply needs it. #TrueMessiah #WalkAsHeWalked #GraftedIn #GreatCommission #LightToTheNations #BiblicalTruth #CovenantRelationship #KingdomLiving #GospelOfTheKingdom #FollowYeshua #PriesthoodOfBelievers #DiscipleshipJourney #SalvationAndRestoration #BiblicalCovenant #EternalHighPriest #Ephraimscry #GregWitter
