The Stage Is Set
We live in an hour when the veil is thin, and what was once confined to ancient temples has returned with new names, new disguises, and new altars.
Scripture warns:
“Because we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against authorities, against the world-rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual wickedness in the heavenlies.” (Ephesians 6:12, TS-2009)
The old gods are not gone. They were never myths. They are living powers, principalities, and spirits — active, deceiving, and warring against the covenant people.
Baal: Dominion, Power, and Compromise
Baal (“lord” or “master”) was the storm-god of Canaan, presented as the one who gave rain, crops, and prosperity. Israel repeatedly stumbled into his worship, erecting altars and mixing devotion to Yahuah with Baal’s idolatry.
“And they forsook יהוה Elohim of their fathers… and served Baʽal and the Ashtoreths. Thus the displeasure of יהוה burned against Yisra’ĕl…” (Judges 2:12–14, TS-2009)
Today his altars are modern: Wall Street’s bull, state-backed politics, and pulpits that blend faith with compromise.
Ishtar: Sexual Revolution and Gender Confusion
Ishtar — also known as Inanna, Astarte, and Ashtoreth — was the goddess of sex, war, and chaos. Jeremiah condemned her worship as “the Queen of Heaven” (Jeremiah 7:17–18).
Her ancient cult exalted immorality, inversion of gender roles, and rebellion against covenant order. Today her influence thrives in pornography, sexual revolution, radical feminism, and the normalization of gender confusion.
Marduk: Empire and Control
Marduk, called Bel (“lord”), rose as Babylon’s supreme deity. He embodied empire, conquest, sorcery, and control.
“Say, ‘Bĕl shall be taken, Marduk shall be broken. Her images shall be put to shame, her idols shall be broken.’” (Jeremiah 50:2, TS-2009)
Babylon stripped Israel’s identity, renamed its sons, and demanded assimilation. Today, the same spirit operates in technocratic control, perpetual war, surveillance, and propaganda — all designed to erase covenant loyalty.
Israel’s Failure, Our Warning
Every time Israel bowed to these gods, judgment came: famine, defeat, exile. Yahuah warned Moses this would happen (Deuteronomy 31:16–17). Yet they fell into the snare, generation after generation.
The gods promise prosperity but deliver slavery. They promise freedom but bring destruction. They promise identity but erase covenant. They are alive — and they are hunting the saints again.
The Remnant Must Understand
Hosea 4:6 is a sobering reminder:
“My people have perished for lack of knowledge… Since you have forgotten the Torah of your Elohim, I also forget your children.”
If we do not recognize Baal, Ishtar, and Marduk at work in culture, politics, and even religion, how can we resist them? If we cannot discern Babylon’s deceptions, how can we obey the call to “Come out of her, My people” (Revelation 18:4)?
This series is written to expose their schemes, reveal their disguises, and equip the remnant to resist with covenant faithfulness.
The question is not whether the old gods have returned — they have. The question is whether the remnant will stand.
Reflection Questions

- How did Baal, Ishtar, and Marduk ensnare Israel, and what parallels exist today?
- What does Hosea 4:6 teach us about knowledge, covenant, and generational impact?
- How does syncretism (mixing truth with compromise) remain one of the most dangerous snares?
- Why must the remnant expose these powers instead of ignoring them?
