AGAINST THE LAW — PART 21: “OLD COVENANT VS NEW COVENANT” — WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGED?
Grace, Obedience, and the Truth Most Refuse to Face
The law was never the problem. Rebellion was.

Now we arrive at one of the most misunderstood—and most misrepresented—frameworks in all of Scripture:
“Old Covenant” vs “New Covenant”
This is where people say:
“The old covenant is gone.”
“The law belonged to the old covenant.”
“We are now in a completely different system.”
That is the claim.
But that is not what Scripture says.
And if you do not define what a covenant actually is, and what “new” actually means, you will misread everything that follows.
DEFINE “COVENANT” CORRECTLY
A covenant is not:
A random list of rules
A temporary religious system
A cultural agreement
A covenant is:
A binding relationship established by Yahuah
With defined terms, promises, and expectations
So the issue is not:
Law vs no law
The issue is:
Relationship and alignment within that covenant
DEFINE “NEW” CORRECTLY — GREEK PRECISION
Hebrews 8 uses the word:
kainos — not neos
This matters.
neos = brand new, never existed before
kainos = renewed, restored, brought into a better state
So the “new covenant” is not:
A completely different system
It is:
The same covenant brought into its intended function
DEFINE “OLD” CORRECTLY
“Old” does not mean:
Bad
Wrong
Defective in standard
It means:
First administration
External structure
Incomplete in function
The issue was never the law.
The issue was:
The condition of the people under it
JEREMIAH 31 — THE FOUNDATION
“Behold, the days are coming… when I will make a new covenant…” (Jeremiah 31:31)
But read the definition:
“I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts.” (Jeremiah 31:33)
This is critical.
The new covenant does not say:
“I will remove My law”
It says:
“I will internalize My law”
HEBREWS CONFIRMS IT — SECOND WITNESS
“This is the covenant… I will put My laws into their hearts…” (Hebrews 10:16)
Two witnesses:
Jeremiah 31
Hebrews 10
Same statement.
Same structure.
EZEKIEL 36 — THE MISSING POWER
“I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes…” (Ezekiel 36:27)
This is the difference.
Old covenant:
Law revealed
Man fails
New covenant:
Law internalized
Spirit empowers obedience
Same law.
New capacity.
WHAT ACTUALLY FAILED?
“If that first covenant had been faultless…” (Hebrews 8:7)
What was the issue?
“They did not continue in My covenant…” (Hebrews 8:9)
The failure was not:
The law
The failure was:
The people
THE LAW DID NOT CHANGE — THE LOCATION DID
Before:
Written on stone
External
Commanded
Now:
Written on hearts
Internal
Lived
Same law.
Different condition.
HEBREWS 7 — PRIESTHOOD CHANGE DEFINED
“When the priesthood is changed, there is a change of law…” (Hebrews 7:12)
This is often misused.
This does not mean:
Righteousness changed
Sin changed
Moral law changed
It means:
Priestly administration changed
Sacrificial system changed
The law governing priesthood shifted—
Not the definition of righteousness.
HEBREWS 8–10 — WHAT BECAME “OBSOLETE”
“He has made the first obsolete…” (Hebrews 8:13)
What became obsolete?
Not:
Righteousness
The definition of sin
The commandments
What changed:
The sacrificial system
The Levitical priesthood
The earthly mediation structure
SHADOW VS SUBSTANCE — DEFINE IT CORRECTLY
“The law has a shadow of good things to come…” (Hebrews 10:1)
The shadow is:
Sacrificial system
Temple service
Atonement patterns
Not:
Righteousness itself
The shadow points forward.
It does not define right and wrong.
WHAT MESSIAH ACTUALLY CHANGED
He became:
The High Priest
The once-for-all sacrifice
The mediator of the covenant
He changed:
How atonement is made
He did not change:
What sin is
What righteousness is
What obedience looks like
THE SACRIFICES WERE NEVER THE SOLUTION
“Sacrifices… could never take away sins.” (Hebrews 10:4)
They:
Pointed forward
Revealed need
Prefigured Messiah
They were never the end goal.
THE COVENANT IS “BETTER” — DEFINE IT
“A better covenant…” (Hebrews 8:6)
Better does not mean:
Different standard
It means:
Better access
Better mediation
Better transformation
Better empowerment
Same righteousness.
“ONCE FOR ALL” — WHAT IT DOES (AND DOES NOT DO)
Messiah’s sacrifice:
Ends repeated sacrifices
Completes atonement
Provides direct access
It does not:
End righteousness
End obedience
End accountability
THE LAW STILL DEFINES SIN
“If we sin willfully…” (Hebrews 10:26)
This is after the new covenant is established.
So sin still exists.
Which means:
The law still defines it.
DRAW NEAR — THE RELATIONAL SHIFT
“Let us draw near…” (Hebrews 10:22)
Before:
Distance
Barrier
External system
Now:
Access
Closeness
Internal transformation
THIS CONNECTS EVERYTHING WE HAVE BUILT
Part 13 — Law written on the heart
Part 14 — Grace removes condemnation
Part 18 — Law becomes liberty
Part 20 — Grace removes penalty, not standard
Now Part 21 locks it fully:
The covenant is renewed in operation—not replaced in standard
THE CONTRADICTION THEY CANNOT ESCAPE
If the covenant is completely new:
Then the definition of sin is gone
Then righteousness is undefined
Then there is nothing to forgive
That system collapses immediately.
COMMON SENSE TEST — AGAIN
If a system is restored to function—
Does truth change?
No.
Access improves.
Relationship deepens.
Function is restored.
WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGED — LOCK THIS IN
Priesthood → changed
Sacrifice → fulfilled
Access → opened
Heart → transformed
Spirit → indwells
Law → unchanged
Righteousness → unchanged
Sin → unchanged
FULL STRUCTURE — LOCK THIS IN
Law revealed
Man fails
Sacrifice points forward
Messiah fulfills
Priesthood changes
Access opens
Spirit indwells
Law internalized
Obedience lived
FINAL HAMMER — NO ESCAPE
The covenant is not new in standard.
It is new in operation.
The law was not removed.
It was internalized.
The priesthood changed.
The sacrifice changed.
Access changed.
The Spirit was given.
But righteousness did not move.
The covenant did not remove the law.
It removed the barrier that kept you from walking in it.
And if you claim the law is gone—
You are not reading the covenant.
You are reading your assumptions into it.
You don’t remove sin by removing the standard—you expose it and deal with it.
