TEST ALL THINGS — WHAT IS THE STANDARD?
EPILOGUE — BUILD ON THE ROCK
THE STANDARD IS ESTABLISHED • THE FOUNDATION IS BUILT • NOW STAND
Greg Witter | Ephraim’s Cry
Hebraic Mindset Study Series
Study • Learn • Apply • Grow • Share • Repeat
We have reached the end of this series.
We began with a command:
“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:21
Everything we have done has been built around that command.
We established that everything gets tested.
We established what constitutes our Scriptural framework.
We established Torah as the foundational measuring rod.
We established the Four-Witness Standard:
TORAH • PROPHETS • WRITINGS • APOSTOLIC WITNESS
We established that tradition may inform but cannot rule Scripture.
We established that extra-Biblical writings may contain valuable information without possessing Scriptural authority.
We established how to test the claim.
How to test the evidence.
How to test the conclusion.
And finally, how to hold fast to what survives.
Now there is one final responsibility:
BUILD YOUR FOUNDATION.
THE FOUNDATION
Yahusha said:
“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock.” — Matthew 7:24
That is where this entire series has been leading.
The objective was never to leave you questioning everything.
The objective was to give you a Scriptural foundation strong enough that everything can be questioned without everything moving you.
There is a tremendous difference.
A person without a foundation hears another doctrine and immediately becomes unstable.
Someone produces a video.
Someone presents a new calendar.
Someone quotes an ancient book.
Someone introduces another manuscript.
Someone makes a Hebrew argument.
Someone claims a new interpretation.
Someone says:
“That isn’t what I think.”
Someone says:
“The scholars say…”
Someone says:
“The rabbis teach…”
Someone says:
“My pastor says…”
Someone says:
“Yahuah showed me…”
And suddenly everything is thrown into uncertainty.
That is precisely what a foundation prevents.
BUILD FROM THE FOUR WITNESSES
The foundation is not Greg Witter.
It is not Ephraim’s Cry.
It is not a denomination.
It is not Christianity.
It is not Judaism.
It is not a religious movement.
It is not a rabbi.
It is not a pastor.
It is not a scholar.
It is not a lexicon.
It is not an ancient book.
It is not a manuscript.
It is not tradition.
It is not personal revelation.
The foundation is what Yahuah has established through the Scriptural witnesses:
TORAH
The foundation and measuring rod.
PROPHETS
Covenant enforcement, warning, correction, and restoration.
WRITINGS
Covenant truth demonstrated through wisdom, worship, history, obedience, rebellion, consequence, and restoration.
APOSTOLIC WITNESS
The testimony concerning Yahusha and the confirmation of Yahuah’s continuing Covenant and Kingdom purpose.
These witnesses must agree.
They have different functions.
They speak in different settings.
They use different literary forms.
But they cannot legitimately be interpreted to destroy one another.
Paul cannot overthrow Moses.
The Apostolic Witness cannot make the Prophets false.
The Writings cannot nullify Torah.
Yahusha cannot contradict the One who sent Him.
If our interpretation requires one Scriptural witness to destroy another:
OUR INTERPRETATION HAS FAILED.
Go back.
Study again.
Test again.
BUILD BEFORE THE WIND BLOWS
Yahusha continues:
“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house…” — Matthew 7:25
Notice what happened.
The storm came.
The foundation did not prevent the wind.
It did not prevent the rain.
It did not prevent the flood.
The foundation prevented the house from falling.
That is the point.
THE FOUNDATION DOES NOT STOP THE WIND.
IT STOPS THE WIND FROM MOVING THE HOUSE.
False teaching will continue.
Half-truths will continue.
Religious traditions will continue.
New theories will continue.
People will continue misusing Scripture.
People will continue misusing Hebrew.
People will continue making manuscript claims.
People will continue presenting ancient writings as though age creates authority.
People will continue claiming revelation.
People will continue saying:
“That’s not what I think.”
Fine.
The wind is blowing.
You do not have to move.
NO LONGER TOSSED ABOUT
Paul describes exactly why this matters:
“That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine…” — Ephesians 4:14
That is the destination.
NO MORE CHILDREN.
No longer doctrinally tossed back and forth.
No longer rebuilding everything because another teacher sounds convincing.
No longer chasing every new calendar.
Every new book.
Every new manuscript theory.
Every new pronunciation.
Every new prophetic interpretation.
Every new theological fad.
Every half-truth.
Every piece of religious hot air somebody blows across the internet.
You now have something against which the claim can be measured.
And you have a process for measuring it.
FOUNDATION + PROCESS = STABILITY
That is what this series has given us.
THE FOUNDATION
Torah • Prophets • Writings • Apostolic Witness
And:
THE PROCESS
TEST THE CLAIM.
TEST THE EVIDENCE.
TEST THE CONCLUSION.
Then:
HOLD FAST TO WHAT SURVIVES.
So when another doctrine comes along, you do not panic.
You do not immediately accept it.
You do not immediately reject it simply because it is unfamiliar.
You say:
BRING THE CLAIM.
Where is it written?
What is the context?
What category does it belong to?
Does Torah support it?
Do the Prophets support it?
Do the Writings support it?
Does the Apostolic Witness support it?
What evidence supports it?
What authority does that evidence actually possess?
Does the conclusion follow?
Does it add to or diminish from what Yahuah established?
Does it survive the whole counsel of Elohim?
If it fails:
REJECT IT.
If it needs correction:
CORRECT IT.
If the evidence remains insufficient:
KEEP STUDYING.
If it survives:
HOLD FAST.
That is stability.
NOW BUILD
Yahusha did not merely describe the wise man as someone who heard His words.
He said the wise man did them.
That matters.
A foundation is not merely intellectual.
Knowing how to defeat false doctrine is not enough.
Knowing Hebrew is not enough.
Knowing manuscripts is not enough.
Knowing the Four-Witness Standard is not enough.
Winning arguments is not enough.
The foundation becomes real when what Yahuah has established becomes what we actually walk.
Hear.
Test.
Establish.
Obey.
Then continue building.
That brings us back to the discipline with which we closed Part 8:
STUDY • LEARN • APPLY • GROW • SHARE • REPEAT
Study the Word.
Learn what Yahuah has established.
Apply it.
Grow through obedience.
Share what has been tested.
Then return to Scripture and repeat the process.
The testing continues.
The growing continues.
The building continues.
But the foundation remains.
FINAL CHARGE
You now have the standard.
You now have the measuring rod.
You now have the witnesses.
You now have the testing process.
So when the next wind blows:
DO NOT PANIC.
When another doctrine comes:
TEST IT.
When another teacher speaks:
TEST IT.
When another tradition is defended:
TEST IT.
When another ancient source is presented:
TEST IT.
When another supposed hidden truth appears:
TEST IT.
When somebody says:
“Yahuah showed me…”
TEST IT.
And when Greg Witter teaches:
TEST IT.
Truth does not fear examination.
Build deeply.
Build carefully.
Build from what Yahuah has established.
Keep the witnesses in agreement.
Do not add.
Do not diminish.
Do not allow another person’s confidence to become your authority.
Do not allow another person’s opinion to become your foundation.
Do not allow every wind of doctrine to tear apart what Scripture has already established.
The wind will blow.
LET IT BLOW.
The question is not whether the storm comes.
The question is whether the house stands.
Build on the Rock.
Test everything.
Hold fast to what is good.
Walk in what Yahuah has established.
And keep building until the King returns.
THE STANDARD IS ESTABLISHED.
THE FOUNDATION IS BUILT.
NOW STAND.
