AGAINST THE LAW — PART 22: “THE PRIESTHOOD CHANGED” — DOES THAT MEAN THE LAW CHANGED?
Grace, Obedience, and the Truth Most Refuse to Face
The law was never the problem. Rebellion was.

Now we come to one of the most misused passages in the entire argument against the law:
“For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.” (Hebrews 7:12)
This is where people say:
“The law changed.”
“The commandments are different now.”
“The old law is gone.”
That is the claim.
But that is not what the text says.
And if you do not define the words used, and do not stay inside the context being addressed, you will collapse categories that Scripture keeps separate—and force the text to say what it never says.
CONTEXT — WHAT IS HEBREWS 7 ACTUALLY ADDRESSING?
Hebrews 7 is not discussing:
Moral righteousness
The definition of sin
The commandments given to Israel
Hebrews 7 is discussing:
Priesthood
Specifically:
Levitical priesthood
Lineage of Aaron
Temple mediation
Sacrificial system
Everything in the chapter revolves around one question:
How can Yahusha be High Priest if He is not from Levi?
THE PROBLEM — LINEAGE
“For it is evident that our Master arose from Judah…” (Hebrews 7:14)
Under the existing system:
Only Levites could serve as priests.
So this creates a legal conflict.
THE ANSWER — A DIFFERENT ORDER
“You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” (Hebrews 7:17)
This establishes:
A different priesthood
A different administration
A superior mediation system
Not:
A different definition of righteousness
DEFINE “CHANGE” — GREEK METATHESIS
Hebrews 7:12 uses the word:
metathesis
It means:
Transfer
Repositioning
Change in arrangement
Shift in administration
It does not mean:
Abolition
Destruction
Elimination
So the verse is saying:
A transfer in priestly administration requires a corresponding adjustment in the legal framework governing that priesthood
Not:
A removal of the law defining righteousness.
DEFINE “SETTING ASIDE” — GREEK ATHETESIS
“For there is an annulling…” (Hebrews 7:18)
The word is:
athetesis
It means:
Setting aside
Nullifying a specific regulation
Disannulling due to weakness in function
What is being set aside?
The command requiring:
Levitical lineage for priesthood
Not:
The commandments defining righteousness.
HEBREWS 7:11 — THE REAL ISSUE
“If perfection were through the Levitical priesthood…”
This is critical.
The problem was not:
The law itself
The problem was:
The priesthood could not bring completion.
It revealed the need—
But could not finish the work.
“BETTER HOPE” — DEFINE IT
“…a better hope is introduced…” (Hebrews 7:19)
Better hope does not mean:
New righteousness
It means:
Effective mediation
Direct access to Yahuah
Complete atonement
THE OATH — SUPERIOR AUTHORITY
Hebrews 7:20–22:
Messiah’s priesthood is established by oath
Levitical priesthood was not.
This proves:
A higher, permanent order
Not a new moral system.
PERMANENT PRIESTHOOD — UNLIKE LEVI
Levitical priests:
Died
Were replaced
Repeated sacrifices
Messiah:
Lives forever
Holds unchangeable priesthood
Intercedes continually
“ONCE FOR ALL” — FINAL SACRIFICE
“He offered Himself once for all.” (Hebrews 7:27)
Repeated sacrifices:
Incomplete
Once-for-all sacrifice:
Complete
This fulfills the system.
It does not redefine righteousness.
TWO CATEGORIES — LOCK THIS IN
You must not collapse these:
1) Moral / Covenant Law
Defines sin
Defines righteousness
Applies universally
2) Priestly / Sacrificial Law
Governs temple service
Governs sacrifices
Governs priesthood lineage
Hebrews 7 addresses:
Category 2
YOU CANNOT CROSS THESE CATEGORIES
You cannot use:
Priestly law
To redefine
Moral law
If you do—
You destroy the structure of Scripture.
WHAT ACTUALLY CHANGED — LOCK THIS IN
Priesthood → changed
Lineage → changed
Sacrificial system → fulfilled
Mediation → perfected
Law defining righteousness → unchanged
Sin → unchanged
Obedience → unchanged
CONNECTION TO HEBREWS 8
“He is mediator of a better covenant…” (Hebrews 8:6)
Part 22 explains:
Why the covenant could now function properly
Because the priesthood was perfected.
IF YOU REMOVE THIS DISTINCTION — EVERYTHING COLLAPSES
If Hebrews 7 means:
“All law changed”
Then:
Sin disappears
Righteousness disappears
Judgment becomes impossible
Then:
Messiah has nothing to mediate.
That system collapses instantly.
COMMON SENSE TEST — AGAIN
If the role of mediator changes—
Does truth change?
No.
Administration changes.
Access changes.
Truth remains.
FULL STRUCTURE — LOCK THIS IN
Law defines
Man fails
Priest mediates
Sacrifice repeats
Messiah fulfills
Priesthood transfers
Access opens
Obedience continues
THIS CONNECTS EVERYTHING WE HAVE BUILT
Part 11 — Record removed, not law
Part 13 — Law written on the heart
Part 21 — Covenant renewed in operation
Now Part 22 locks it fully:
The priesthood changed—not the standard of righteousness
THE CONTRADICTION THEY CANNOT ESCAPE
If priesthood change = law removal:
Then sin is undefined
Then righteousness is undefined
Then judgment is meaningless
Then Messiah’s role becomes irrelevant.
That system destroys itself.
FINAL HAMMER — NO ESCAPE
Hebrews 7 is not about removing the law.
It is about establishing a better priesthood.
The priesthood changed—
To bring you into alignment.
Not to remove what defines alignment.
The law governing priesthood was transferred.
The law defining righteousness did not move.
And if you use Hebrews 7 to argue the commandments are gone—
You are not reading the context.
You are forcing a conclusion the text does not support.
You don’t remove sin by removing the standard—you expose it and deal with it.
