THE REAL FAMINE — AMOS 8:11
“See, the days are coming,” declares Yahûah Elohim, “that I shall send a famine in the land—not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the Words of Yahûah.”

I. The Prophet’s Warning — A Silence from Heaven
Amôs (Amos) was no professional prophet. He was a herdsman from Tekoah, pulled from his flock to confront a nation fat with comfort and void of conviction. In the midst of prosperity, Yahûah thundered through him that a famine was coming — but not of grain or water. The land would groan under a famine of hearing the Word of Yahûah.
This was not about lack of Scripture — they had Torah scrolls in their synagogues. It was about a withdrawal of revelation. The voice of Yahûah would go silent because His people no longer listened.
“They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall run to and fro to seek the Word of Yahûah, but shall not find it.” — Amos 8:12
A famine of truth is the most severe judgment a nation can face. When Yahûah removes His voice, He has already removed His favor.
II. The Surface Looks Rich — but the Land Is Starving
Modern Yisrâ’êl and the nations mirror Amos’s day. There is no shortage of “religion,” no shortage of Bibles, teachers, livestreams, and sermons — but there is a terrifying absence of truth. The people are fed cotton-candy doctrine and sermonettes that fill the belly and starve the spirit.
They cry out, “Give us a word,” and false prophets deliver smooth sayings, not the Word of Yahûah.
The result: a generation spiritually obese yet malnourished — dehydrated of the Rûach ha’Qôdesh (רוח הקדש), the Set-Apart Spirit of truth.
“The prophets prophesy lies in My Name… and My people love to have it so.” — Yirmeyahu (Jeremiah) 5:31
III. The Nature of the Famine
Famine of Truth — Not Information
The earth is flooded with information but barren of revelation. Many hear words but not His Word.
“Ever learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” — 2 Timothy 3:7
Famine of Obedience — Not Emotion
They sing, clap, and weep, but do not shemaʿ (hear and obey). Emotion is not obedience.
“This people draw near with their mouths … but their heart is far from Me.” — Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 29:13
Famine of Discernment — Not Gifts
When Torah is cast aside, discernment dies. Every wind of doctrine blows them off course.
“Because they did not receive the love of the truth … Elohim sends them a working of delusion.” — 2 Thessalonians 2:10-11
IV. The Root Cause — Rebellion Disguised as Grace
The modern ekklesia (assembly; ἐκκλησία) has rejected Torah and called it legalism. They preach a false grace that excuses sin instead of conquering it. They cry “Spirit! Spirit!” while ignoring the Spirit’s voice, which writes Torah on the heart.
“They have rejected the Torah of Yahûah and have not guarded His laws; their lies lead them astray.” — Amos 2:4
When truth is rejected, Yahûah withdraws His voice. The candlestick is removed, and the people stumble in darkness calling it light.
V. The Remnant During the Famine
Yet Yahûah always preserves a remnant who refuse the counterfeit bread and hunger for the pure Word. They do not chase celebrity preachers or modern movements — they return to the ancient paths.
“Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it.” — Yirmeyahu 6:16
The remnant understands that the real famine is spiritual — and they fight it by feasting on the living Word, Yahûsha Ha’Mashiach (יהושע המשיח).
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of Yahûah.” — Devariym 8:3; Mattithyahu 4:4
VI. The Restoration of Hearing
The famine ends when the people repent and return to the Voice. Yahûah is still speaking — but only those who have ears to hear will perceive Him.
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the assemblies.” — Ḥazon (Revelation) 2:7
The real famine is not the absence of Scripture, but the absence of obedience. The cure is simple and eternal: Return to Torah, walk in the Word, and live by every utterance of Yahûah.
